About

A software studio for the people the software forgot

Montemflumen builds products in Daejeon for people who are not served well by Korean-only software. Foreign residents, international students, and the businesses trying to reach them.

Why we exist

Language is the feature nobody budgets for

A person who has moved to Korea can hold a job, sign a lease and raise a family here, and still be locked out of the software that makes any of it easier. Not because the product is bad, but because it was built once, in one language, for one kind of user, and everything after that was a translation file added late.

We build the other way around. The second language is a constraint we design the data model for on day one, not a project somebody proposes in year two. It costs more at the start and less every year after.

How we work

What we will not trade

  • Multilingual from the first screen

Not translation bolted on at the end. The schema, the search and the layout are built for more than one language before a single screen is designed, because retrofitting that is the most expensive work in this business.

  • One team, no handoffs

The person who designs a screen writes the query behind it. Nothing gets lost between a design file and production, and there is nobody to blame in the gap, because there is no gap.

  • We tell you what to cut

Most projects arrive as a rough idea and a deadline. The useful thing we do first is say which requirement is the expensive one, before you have committed to it.

  • We run what we ship

Our products run on infrastructure we administer, so the person who took the shortcut is the person it wakes up. If you would rather your own team took it over, we build for that from the first week.

The rest of this is easier to show than to explain.

Four products are live in Korea right now. Read what each one had to solve, then tell us what you are trying to build.
